CI, SSCI, ERE, SSERE Committee Substation Site Visit

Tuesday, July 29, 2025 (5pm - 7pm US/Eastern)

Join the Critical Infrastructure and Energy Resources & the Environment Committees and Staff Subcommittees for an excursion to visit an updated, hardened, raised substation while in Boston! The substation is located less than a mile from the hotel via a short walk through the exciting Seaport District.

Because of the new station’s proximity to the Boston Harbor, a first-of-its-kind design feature was incorporated to protect against an increasing risk of coastal storm surges. The station equipment is situated on a 15-ft-high, 25,000-sq-ft (4.6-m-high, 2323-sq-m) elevated platform, with room for vehicle access below at ground level.

This excursion will include a walk to the substation and should last approximately 90 minutes. Near the substation are many restaurants and pubs, which you are welcome to experience on your own after the tour.

We will gather at the Omni Boston Seaport lobby (Summer Policy Summit hotel) at 5 PM after the General Session for the walk to the substation.

There is no cost, but we are limited regarding how many people we can accommodate, so please register ASAP. If you register and are unable to join us, please let us know so we can open a spot to someone else.
